Rotary/USAID International H2O Collaboration in Ghana
(last update 2010-03-16 11:13:12)
|
| Description |
The USAID mission and Rotarians have worked closely with the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), the branch of the government that works in rural communities to address water, sanitation, and hygiene needs, to select the communities and develop the projects. The communities were selected based on several factors, including need, readiness, and proximity to a Rotary Club.
Within each community, projects will involve the provision of capacity building, borehole(s), mechanized water system(s), VIP latrines, water closets, rainwater collection vessel(s), and/or hygiene education. Sustainability will be addressed by establishing water and sanitation committees in each village. These committees will establish a fee structure and handle the operation and maintenance of the systems. Ongoing monitoring will be provided by the CWSA.
This grant will directly benefit approximately 86,000 in 111 villages.
