St. Joseph Water Project

ST. JOSEPH NGARENARO GIRLS’ SECONDARY SCHOOL

St Joseph's is situated in a dry area on the outskirts of Arusha – Kisongo, District. Water comes from Mt. Meru springs, which is piped by a government institution – ‘the Tanzania army Branch based in Arusha.  Their is a lack of water as it has to be rationed so that the neighboring communities can share.  St Joseph uses hoses to fill their tanks because of the water pipes leakage.

St Joseph inherited the school in 2013, since they had to migrate from Arusha Town.
Through the help of City of Arusha water engineers they found most of the pipes were leaking water underground because the pipes have rusted. A Rotary District Grant repaired the rusted pipes.

A Rotary Global Grant for water storage, rain garden and rainfall harvest system will enable St Joesph to save water, which will be used for cooking, drinking, cleaning, watering trees and flowers and clearing out sewage which is not functional.
